The Totem single-ring and SecureRing protocols An overview

چکیده
This is an overview of the two articles: “The Totem Single-Ring Ordering and Membership Protocol” by Y.Amir, L. E. Moser, P. M. Melliar-Smith, D. A. Agarwal and P. Ciarfella. “The SecureRing Protocols for Securing Group Communication” by K. Potter-Kihlstrom, L. E. Moser and P. M Melliar-Smith. The Totem protocol, which was the first to be published, describes a protocol for reliable delivery of multicast messages in total order. The SecureRing protocol is basically an extension of the Totem protocol, it has extended the failure handling to also include Byzantine faults. The goal of this report is to briefly describe these two set of protocols and evaluate their strengths and weaknesses. Both these sets of protocols have the same basic concept, which will be briefly described below, therefore attributes described will apply to both protocols unless otherwise is stated.

Analyzing and Measuring the Latency of the Totem Multicast Protocols
Multicast group communication protocols provide a foundation on which distributed systems can be built. To determine whether these distributed systems can meet their real-time requirements, it is necessary to determine the message delivery latency of the underlying group communication systems. This research determines, by analysis and measurement, the probability density functions (pdfs) for th...
متن کاملThe Totem Redundant Ring Protocol
Group communication protocols greatly simplify the design of fault-tolerant distributed systems. Most of those protocols focus on node redundancy rather than on network redundancy. The Totem Redundant Ring Protocol allows the use of multiple redundant local-area networks. The partial or total failure of a network remains transparent to the application processes. The distributed system remains o...
متن کاملThe SecureRing Protocols for Securing Group Communication
The SecureRing group communication protocols provide reliable ordered message delivery and group membership services despite Byzantine faults such as might be caused by modifications to the programs of a group member following illicit access to, or capture of, a group member. The protocols multicast messages to groups of processors within an asynchronous distributed system and deliver messages ...
متن کاملFast Message Ordering and Membership Using a Logical Token-Passing Ring
Many protocols exist to support the maintenance of consistency of data in fault-tolerant distributed systems ; these protocols are quite expensive and thus have not been widely adopted. The Totem protocol supports consistent concurrent operations by placing a total order on broadcast messages. This total order is achieved by including a sequence number in a token circulated around a logical rin...
متن کاملDiffie-Hellman type key exchange protocols based on isogenies
In this paper, we propose some Diffie-Hellman type key exchange protocols using isogenies of elliptic curves. The first method which uses the endomorphism ring of an ordinary elliptic curve $ E $, is a straightforward generalization of elliptic curve Diffie-Hellman key exchange. The method uses commutativity of the endomorphism ring $ End(E) $. Then using dual isogenies, we propose...
